    BUSINESS SUPPORT Are you a local businesses owner or a fundraising group? Can you help us? Support Did you know 1 in 5 people in England and Wales have a disability? The Borough of Scarborough has one of the highest concentration of people with a disability in England and it is the most deprived area in North Yorkshire*. ​ We believe everyone should be able to learn to swim and enjoy the life long benefits of swimming, but we can't do this alone. We rely on the support of local businesses, voluntary organisations and support groups to develop and sustain our work. How Corporate social responsibility is all about organisations playing their responsible part in society and giving back to society, and a big part of that is fundraising and supporting worthy causes. ​ May this be: ​ Offering your services or products free of charge to the charity (pro-bono) or at a reduced rate. ​ Promoting SDSG on your premises, may that be a banner outside, including the charities logo on your newsletters/promotional material or displaying our posters inside. ​ Displaying SDSG's charity donation tubs by your tills. ​ Donating stationary to SDSG, eg reams of paper, toner cartridges, note pads, pens or clipboards. ​ Allowing your staff to volunteer for the charity in work time. ​ Share our social media posts. ​ Enable your customers to donate to SDSG in person or via your website. ​ Referring your clients / customers to SDSG. ​ Putting your staff on disability awareness courses. ​ Sponsoring an event, a number of swim sessions or piece of equipment at SDSG. ​ Offering room hire free of charge for SDSG meetings, events or training. ​ Fundraising for SDSG.     MEMBERSHIP As a membership charity you will need to join before attending one of our swim sessions and activities. Membership Membership is open to anyone aged 50 and over and anyone of any age with a disability. SDSG believes in the holistic approach to support, therefore, each paid up member can bring their family, carer(s) or a friend with them (subject to entry fees), as long as they complete a membership form. ​ Once you have submitted your membership form(s), and paid your membership*, you will be provided with a booking password to enable online bookings. ​ Note: Membership is not confirmed until your first swim session, subject to any additional questions. ​ Cost: To help pay the charity insurance (inc member insurance) and general running costs, each household (or individually if in supported living/care home) pays an annual membership fee, which is due upon joining and in January each year. See downloads for example costs depending on your situation. ​ Annual Membership: £8.00* There are also session/activity entry fees to help pay for pool hire, lifeguards, volunteers and equipment costs. ​ Swim Entry Adult: from £6.00 ​ Swim Entry Child: from £4.00 ​ Once you have returned your membership form(s) you will be emailed a payment link to enable you to pay your annual membership by debit card online. ​ * If you are a tax payer we can claim back the tax paid on your membership fee, an additional 25% through Gift Aid.     VOLUNTEERING We have a dedicated team of over 25 volunteers who deliver our specialist swim sessions, activities and events. ​ There is always more to be done! ​ COMMITMENT: In recognition of the valuable work of volunteers here at SDSG, we have signed up to the for best practice in volunteer management and also made a pledged to the who also have a disability.     SWIM STROKES The main four swimming strokes What is on offer at SDSG? Members can work towards the NASCH Distance Badge & Water Skills Award Scheme. Alongside, awards in the main four swimming strokes: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and front crawl. The four basic strokes are outlined below, with videos and links to the Swim England website for more information. ​ Speak to a swim teacher during a swim session for more information. ​ Contact Us Part of SDSG's Exercise and Swim Skills Re-engagement Project funded by North Yorkshire Country Council. Breaststroke is the most popular swimming stroke of all.     COVID-19 Information GENERAL COVID SECURE MEASURES WE ARE UNDERTAKING, INCLUDE: ​ Activities should be booked online ​ Latest Government COVID measures will apply – Latest updates ​ ​ Should the borough of Scarborough enter tier 3 our activities are limited to disabled swimmers (of all ages) and their carers & children under 18 years of age, in accordance with Government restrictions. To view Sport England's FAQ click here ​ SDSG activities are unable to run in tier 4 ​ We ask that anyone feeling ill or showing signs of any symptoms does not attend the centre and follow NHS guidance ​ Members are encouraged to scan the NHS QR code posters. You will be asked to provide your name and contact details so you can be notified if you have been exposed to the virus ​ When making bookings please adhere to the government legislation on the rule of 6 ​ Customers are encouraged to wear face ​ coverings in our facilities when not taking part in an activity ​ Participants to arrive changed (beach ready) if possible ​ We ask that you arrive no earlier than 20 minutes before your booked activity start time unless agreed in advance. If you arrive earlier than 20 minutes, we kindly ask that you wait outside or in your car to avoid congregation in reception and communal areas ​ Ensuring our cleaning measures adhere to Public Health England guidance ​ All activities will have maximum numbers allocated inline with Swim England Guidance ​ Everyone Active have implement a one-way system (where possible) so we can maintain social distancing guidelines in all areas of the centre ​ Hand sanitiser and cleaning materials will be located at various locations around the building for customers to use ​ Use the hand sanitiser provided before and after your session/activity ​ All member communication can be done through this website to avoid interaction, but where this may be unavoidable, the venue have installed protective ‘sneeze screens’ ​ We will provide training for all volunteers on our new way of operating, ensuring both volunteer and team safety is always a priority ​ Everyone Active have increased their cleaning of the centre and have reviewed their procedures to ensure they meet the COVID 19 Public Health England COVID 19: Cleaning of non-healthcare settings guidance. You will see additional focused cleaning of any shared surfaces and regular antivirus fogging of areas throughout the day ​ Remind both volunteers and members of Government advice through clear notices around the building ​ Anyone that is found to not be adhering to these rules will be asked to leave ​ If a swim session is cancelled due to COVID-19, notification of this will be posted on our Facebook page ( and you will be sent an email from our booking system (TryBooking.com). Please check regularly. www.facebook.com/scarboroughdsg) ​ ​ Swimming: ​Our swim sessions will operate with a reduced bather load split into separate activities. Capacity will be based on Swim England guidance and will be continually reviewed. A household or support bubble can book all availble slots within an activity, if they wish. ​ Activity times will be staggered, so there will be fewer activities starting and finishing at the same time ​ Where possible, we ask swimmers to arrive for their activity beach ready. This will avoid the need to use the changing rooms prior to their session ​ Swim Teachers will be required to teach from the poolside and maintain social distancing from members at all times ​ Parents / carers may be asked to attend activities in the water, this may be for safety reasons or social, eg to help the member to comply with social distancing ​ All activities must be booked online in advance so capacities can be managed and to limit waiting in reception ​ Members will not be able to switch activities during a swim session, this is to limit the mixing of separate groups ​ All equipment will be sanitised in pool water inline with Swim England guidelines prior to and after each use. We request that members do not share equipment. ​ Please help us to keep our pools open and our swimmers safe by maintaining social distancing whilst in the pool ​ Swim Etiquette: Enter and exit the pool as directed ​ Please do not overtake whilst swimming. Before pushing off at each turn, check to see if anyone faster is approaching ​ Always attempt to maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and another swimmer ​ Do not make physical contact with other users ​ Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lane will want to keep swimming without stopping. Keep yourself to the edge of the lane allowing others to turn at the wall, turning your head away and allowing others to maintain social distancing measures ​ If you need a longer rest, please exit the pool and use the designated area on poolside ​ If activities are busy we may have to stagger exit to the changing rooms at the end of the activity so please be patient with our volunteers ​ The lifeguards are here for everyone’s safety. If you are asked to adhere to the above guidance, your co-operation would be appreciated ​ Swim England Guidance Everyone Active Guidance Travel: We ask that all our members to consider the safest way to travel to SDSG activities during the Covid-19 pandemic – Government advice is to avoid using public transport where ever possible.     The Facilities Scarborough Sports Village is a state of the art Olympic Games legacy community pool. Accessible Seating Throughout Scarborough Sports Village SDSG has placed chairs with arms to support users who need to sit down before, during or after their activity. Accessible Doors Throughout Scarborough Sports Village Everyone Active have installed accessible doors to ensure as many people as possible can independently use the facilities. ​ Please do not manually push or pull the doors, this will break them, they should only be operated through the push to open button located at the side of each door.     Welcome to Accessible Swimming We are a user led membership charity offering swimming opportunities for people with a disability of any age, people aged 50 and over and also their family who live in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey or the surrounding district. Objective: “To provide or assist in the provision of facilities and events for recreation, rehabilitation, sport and leisure time occupation, in particular but not exclusively by the provision of facilities and opportunities for swimming, for people with disabilities* and their families, in the interest of social welfare with the object of improving their condition”. ​ ​ ​ Partnerships: We work with many local businesses, groups and charities to improve and develop accessibility and health improvement provision for people with a disability in the Borough of Scarborough. Similarly, we receive new member referrals from Social Services (Disabled Children Service and Adult Services), Occupational Health, our local Home Improvement Agency (White Rose), NHS Specialist Nurses, GP Practices, NYCC Wellbeing Service and our local Youth Services to mention a few.
