    Scarborough District Children & Young People’s Fund Introduction During the pandemic crisis, poor mental health and wellbeing in children & young people in the Scarborough District has become an increasing concern. In response, the Scarborough District Children & Young People’s fund has provided money to enable SDSG to deliver aquatic activities to promote good mental health and wellbeing for children and their parents for one year, entry free. ​ Swim England state: "Being active has a positive impact on mental health including: improving mood, increasing self-esteem, lowers the risk of depression, slows dementia and cognitive decline, improves sleep and reduces stress. What is on offer? In the small pool SDSG is providing access to: ​ - SDSG's toys and equipment ​ - State of the art aqua-sensory lighting ​ - Trained assistants will be on hand to organise games and activities ​ In addition to this, the children and young people will be able to influence the games and activities being organised and together will have £500 to spend on new equipment and toys. ​ It will also be FREE ENTRY* for children, young people and parents. ​ ​ ​ Sign-up to SDSG * Annual Membership Required. ​ ​

    Synergy Dance® Outreach SDSG's new partnership to help increase home exercise inlight of COVID-19 restrictions Together we can SDSG are pleased to have partnered with Synergy Dance® Outreach to provide a range of FREE inclusive online yoga, meditation and dance programmes for children, teens, adults and seniors. ​ Synergy Dance® Outreach is a registered charity (1180506) that aims to promote lifelong participation in dance and fitness and to reach all levels of fitness, ability and background – through their work in schools, leisure centres, outreach programs and funded charity work for under-represented or inactive groups.     NASCH DISTANCE BADGE & WATER SKILLS AWARD SCHEME A points based scheme to enable anyone to learn and develop in swimming Distance Badge Members can earn badges for swimming set distances freestyle or using one of the four main swim strokes: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and front crawl. Certificates and badges are awarded at our annual presentation in December each year. ​ To find out more about the scheme please click and watch the video on this page or speak to one of our volunteer swim teachers during a SDSG swim session. ​ Many swimmers pursue badges while also undertaking NASCH Water Skills or our Stroke Development Awards . ​ ​ Contact Us Water Skills Skills required for safety, water confidence and competence are split progressively into skills: ​ Skills 1 to 20, cover early water confidence skills Skills 21 to 40 cover more advanced skills and propulsion Skills are also graded according to the amount of support required. These are termed stages. ​ Points are awarded for learning different skills and for increasing independence. Badges are awarded according to the number of points earned and not necessarily upon completing all skills (which can be at diffing stages) depending on the affect of a person's disability. ​ Swimmers can then progress onto our Water Safety Awards and / or Stroke Development to continue their swim journey.     The Big Swim SDSG has an annual sponsored swim event to bring together supporters of SDSG, may they be: family, friends or members of the community, to help raise much needed funds, to ensure anyone with a disability or medical condition can stay active through swimming. Annual Sponsored Swim: Don't worry, if you struggle swimming numerous lengths in a row, why not swim as part of a relay? ​ To keep costs down (unless we are able to secure external funding) swimmers will be offered a lane during one (or more) of our main fortnightly swim sessions in October. ​ A sponsorship form can be dowloaded below, once complete please email it to contactus@sdsg.org.uk .     CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS POLICY MEMBERSHIP Membership fees are due upon joining and in January of each year. ​ Only paid up and approved members can attend SDSG activities. ​ BOOKABLE ACTIVITIES Your membership may entitle you to book activities ( separate entry fees may apply). If you are unable to attend such bookings you must cancel as soon as possible. ​ Whilst the majority of our members, when unable to attend a class/event/activity/session they have booked, cancel their activites in good time to allow others to book on, others just do not show up and prevent other members accessing the activity. In order to maximise spaces for our members we will impose a £4 “no-show” charge for those that either fail to show up or cancel within 4 hours of the class/activity/event start time. ​ CANCELLATION BY SDSG SDSG reserve the right to refuse, cancel or change any booking or event at any time prior to its commencement and to refuse admission to the event or centre, or to reject an application of membership and to withdraw membership. We can add to, change, withdraw or cancel facilities or activities from the centre without notice. This includes closing a centre or making changes to opening hours for safety reasons, maintenance or special events. In the case of cancellation for your booking, SDSG will refund you the full price. SDSG shall not be responsible for any extra costs incurred as a result of a cancelled or rescheduled event. There is no entitlement to a refund where SDSG is forced to cancel part or all of an event/session/activity due to reasons beyond our reasonable control. However, refunds may be given at SDSG’s discretion. CANCELLATION BY THE MEMBER Activity bookings are non-refundable. Alternative times may be offered at SDSG’s discretion. REFUNDS No refund of membership fees will be made if a facility, a session or an activity is withdrawn from SDSG's programme. SDSG will not be liable for any other expenditure incurred or loss sustained by the member arising from the cancellation. Applications for refunds must be made in writing to The Board of Trustees stating the details of refund requested and with proof of purchase where appropriate. No part session refunds/credits are available. A credit note will be given on any payment up to the value of £10.00. A refund or credit note will be given on any payment over £10.00. Should you wish to return any retail product, on proof of purchase, we will exchange the item or provide a full refund, provided the item is unwashed, unworn and unused. This will be valid for 28 days from the date of purchase. If any retail product is found to be faulty, on proof of purchase we will exchange the item or provide a full refund. This does not affect your statutory rights. Where you apply for a new SDSG Membership via online application or by telephone you have a legal right to change your mind within 14 days of the date of application and receive a refund of membership fees paid (less a 15% administration fee); provided that you have not used your membership or attended a SDSG swim session/activity within that period. Please note no refunds will be given for memberships bought in person, eg at Scarborough Sports Village. To request a refund please notify Scarborough Disabled Swimming Group by telephone, letter or email within 14 days of making payment. No refunds will be issued after this t ime and membership is non-transferable. ​ We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time. ​ ​ ​ Close

    ACCESSIBLE SPORTS NOTICEBOARD PURPOSE SDSG secured external funding to install a digital noticeboard at Scarborough Sports Village. ​ The noticeboard promotes accessible sports provision provided by member groups of Scarborough & District Inclusive Sports. Including NHS Exercise Referral, Escape Pain Courses and Social Prescriptions. ​ The noticeboard will be seen by 100s of people each year and will hopefully lead to more people partaking in regular exercise.
